He married Madeline (Atkinson) Shaughnessy April 19, 1922. Madeline was born May 15, 1898. She was the daughter of ? Atkinson and Jane Theresa Atkinson. Madeline died February 22, 1994 at 95 years of age.

John (Jack) Shaughnessy and Madeline (Atkinson) Shaughnessy had the following children:

4 i. Jane Theresa (Shaughnessy)³ McArdle was born June 13, 1924. Jane died September 19, 1995 at 71 years of age. She married Francis McArdle. Francis was born March 10, 1916. Francis died 1972. (See Francis McArdle for the continuation of this line.)

6 iii. Madeline (Shaughnessy) Doherty was born March 12, 1929. She married Lawrence Eugene Doherty May 20, 1950. Lawrence was born July 31, 1927. He is the son of Charles Doherty and Nellie (Ellen) (Campbell) Doherty. (See Lawrence Eugene Doherty for the continuation of this line.)
